Yes, I saw that. It's rather ridiculous.

Problem with ebook pricing in Germany is that once you set a price, it's fixed and cannot be changed again. No sales, no free give aways, that's against the law. Everyone has to sell that book at the same price. Which is annoying where ebooks are concerned since the decision of pricing carries much more weight.

I still plan to stay in the [sign in to see URL] range with my ebooks, and go free or lowest possible price with any novellas or short stories I might publish. Of course, if I do the English language ones through [sign in to see URL], changing prices shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I can go that route even with my German ones ... not sure.

That's nuts about the pricing in Germany. I can kind of understand why, but it's still nuts!

I hope you're able to get your books priced how YOU want them priced!!! Much luck to you, and the other authors here on all their writing endevours, and on things such as pricing!!!

The law is old and was meant to protect publishers, authors and buyers. And in fact, prices for books are higher in Austria, where they repealed a similar law a few years ago.

I'm devided on this, especially where ebooks are concerned. Of course, even the production of an ebook costs money (editing, cover etc. still have to be paid for), so it's not something that can be available for free all the time.

Still, some ebook prices are absurd, especially in Germany. I know one case where a book first came out as hardcover and ebook. The ebook was priced just a few Euro below the hardcover. Now the pocket book variant is out - and cheaper than the ebook. Silly, if you ask me.

[sign in to see URL]? I loved the series (I just gave Saijen the audio version of the first book) and still haven't managed to watch the movie because everyone said it was so bad....

I FINALLY placed my order for the paperback. It was a bit expensive so I really wanted to cash in on the free shipping from amazon but had to find another book I wanted. I just placed my big book order a few months ago and was kinda tapped out on things I wanted but a new fermentation book was just published last month so I got that too!

The universe smiles on me. I found the very blogpost I wanted to quote here:

]How Much Should I Charge for My Ebook?

I love that blog. (Catherine Caffeinated)

Yes, how much to charge for a book is definitely one you have to really think about. Genre and book length have to be taken into consideration.

In the U.S., free isn't working as well for people anymore. Instead of going free on the e-book for however many people to grab, I am going to do a paperback give away on GoodReads. I will offer two paperbacks for free. People can sign up to win it and GoodReads picks the winners. Then I mail the books out to the winners. That way it draws attention to the book, puts a couple of free copies into the hands of readers, while still allowing me to control how many go out.

If you run a free promo on Amazon, you can lose a lot of sales too. One of my friends ran a free promo, she had over 2,600 people grab it in three days. That is 2,600 people who won't need to buy it.

It takes longer to build up if you don't offer free, but if your book is good, it will eventually get there and you will paid for every step you take. I may offer a lower price on my e-book in the fall as a promo, but nothing too drastic.

I didn't feel that your e-book price was outrageous, Syrakynn. It was a fair price for a new book! At the book store, I would pay up to about $8 for a brand new paperback, so your e-book was well within that range. Yes, the hardcopy is more expensive, but, because the book is such a good read, it's one I'd like to have in that form as well, in the event I should ever loose it on my Kindle.

(plus, knowing the author makes it more special! lol)

I'm hoping my Mom gets the book. I think she'd really like it!!

I am comfortable with the price point for my e-book. I might lower it a dollar for a week in the fall as a promo. I think I will see how it is doing by then.

The paperback is more expensive than I like, but that is the nature of it.

The paperback is comparably priced to other books in that genre, so I'd not worry too much about that price. It's a bit cheaper than some in that same genre, and as word spreads what an awesome book it is, the price will seem like small taters next to some of the others. It's a good price, so don't worry about it too awfully much!! emoticon emoticon
