New Dog

Looks like I may be getting a new puppy. She is a Catahoula Leopard Cur. She has the cutest little bob tail and blue eyes. I was going to attempt to post a pic of her but it looks like you need to go to my FB. http://www.facebook.com/mike.adkins.585

Right now we have a rat (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix)and a Lab. The Lab is about 12yo and not doing so good and I want to try and get back into backpacking and want a dog to go with me. The kids can't go because their life force comes directly from electronic devices and without a computer or Playstation they would just whither up.

I'm naming the new pup Kacey. It's supposed to mean "watchful" in Gaelic.

If she's the one with the half black and half spotted face - so cute! Hope you'll enjoy hiking with her.

And it could never hurt to ask your kids to come with you. You might be surprised. emoticon

What a pretty little girl! she'll be a wonderful companion for you as you're hiking. Enjoy your sweet new friend.

After September and our camping trip, I am going to start some serious looking for one. I can tell a difference without our Chow here. We need a new guard dog that is loose...and will also be a friend for our little Corgii mix as well as our big ole Wolf boy. People are scared of the wolf, but we can't let him just run loose...we're scared someone would end up killing him, not realizing he's a pet.

Re: New Dog

I don't know what it is about this pup but I fell for her as soon as they sent me a pic of her. She is going to break our budget some for the next couple of months but our daughter is going to start tutoring at the college and she wants what she makes to go for the dog because she knows how much I want her. I am so lucky to have the kids that I have.

I checked out a dog at our shelter and was ready to get him until it's foster mom told us that he had heart worms. The shelter failed to tell us this and the vet told us $200 at a minimum to treat him. By the time we paid the $50 adoption fee, $100 to get him fixed and the cost of the heart worm treatment I can almost get 2 Catahoula pups.

Firl, I asked my son one night if he would be willing to camping with me and he said he would as long as it wasn't at night. He is 21 and does not like the dark.

You could tell your son that he gets to stay inside the tent while it's dark. emoticon And it's not dark for long in summer.

emoticon Hope it all works out well.

Re: New Dog

How does one go camping if you're not staying till dark? Or sleeping there in the dark? Or....or...... emoticon emoticon emoticon

I LOVE to camp. I'd go with ya, Bro!!! It's hard for me to tent camp anymore if I have to use a cot or air mattress, but, I can do it if I have to. I can handle an air mattress on the ground better than the cots we have. My knees won't work enough to get me off the cot, but the air mattress, I can roll off of, onto the floor, get on my knees then push myself up. More work, but doable! LOL. I do love my camper. It's a soft side pop-up (soft sides when it's totally up), so it's still enough like a tent that I enjoy it.

I'm even not adverse to dry camping. No running water, etc. Just take my wet wipes, my no rinse shampoo and no rinse body wash, and a jug of water so I can brush my teeth, and I'm good to go! Camped for 2 weeks like that, and never smelled bad! emoticon

I hope you can convince him that you can put a light in the tent, so he won't have to be in the dark! Mercy...

Re: New Dog

Haven't got the pup yet. Couple more weeks. She's about 6 weeks old now.

I've been talking to my son and he said that he would try it with me. I've been teasing him and telling him that he can go on a trip that I'm trying to plan for next May. I want to go to my brother's place and then hike part of the Appalacian Trail. The route that I think I will take starts off in Damascus and ends in Erwin. The whole trip is about 120 miles and we will sleep outside the whole time.

Whether he goes or not I plan on doing it. Even if it's just me and my dog.
