Valentine's projects

For Christmas, I bought myself a sewing machine (during the after-holiday sales). I wasn't sure it was really a wise purchase since I can count on my hands how many times I actually sewed something. But I wanted to learn and figured the only way to do that would be to have a machine since it was getting harder to borrow one. So I've come up with all sorts of projects to do with it!

This last week I made stuffed heart valentine's for all the kids in Willa's preschool class. They are just felt with the first initial painted on them and some glitter sprinkled on top for good measure. It only took me about 2 hours from start to finish to make 12 of these - and would be way faster now that I figured out how to do it!

And I made a bag for Willa to carry them to school in. I've been wanting to try machine applique, so I put on a few hearts on the outside of the bag to practice that. Willa loved wearing it as a necklace!

And just something else cute we did - Queen of Hearts Tarts!

I'm seriously impressed by how many projects you managed. Those hearts look very cute. I bet the kids in Willa's class loved them!

The bag is classic!

And of course, now I am ashamed. I have my own sewing machine - a very old one I inherited from my grandmother - but I have no idea how to use it. I have refused getting rid of it, but now I feel I should at least make an effort of getting it going.

I would sew a lot more if I had a place I could set up and leave my machine. My poor house just is not big enough. DH and I have talked about seeing if our landlord would let us put a storage shed behind the house, and run electricity to [sign in to see URL] it big enough to house our mowers and yard stuff on one side, and turn a portion of it into a crafting room for me on the other side. Could add a window for [sign in to see URL] have to see.

LOVE the hearts and the bag you made to carry them in! What a cute idea. Bet the kids really liked them, too. You're so creative!!!!
