Handmade cloth kitchen items

I finished my sister-in-law's present! Well, 2 of the 3 parts. I'll post the third in a few days. I already gave her the other parts.

It's February and that birthstone is Amethyst. So I tied all the projects together with a deep purple color.

First, I made 8 dinner napkins. They are 100% cotton and have a different pattern on each side. I made them small - I didn't want those huge restaurant napkins like the original instructions called for. There are more the size of 'cocktail' napkins they suggested. They won't cover your whole lap but close enough!

And I also made 6 dish towels. Every time I cook at their house, they never have any clean towels! So this was a bit of a selfish gift. Hehehe. They are 100% irish linen. I debated what to make them out of and couldn't decide between linen and terry cloth. But at the store, all the terry cloth was in pastel colors and I found this in linen. I love it! The color doesn't look quite right in the photo. The pattern is a deep beautiful purple.

And I plan on making her some pot holders (another thing they lack...well, they have them but each one has a hole!). But I only had polyester thread and it would melt! So I need to stop by the craft store and get some cotton thread.

Those are lovely! I really like the linen cloth - besides, I would always prefer linen for dish towels. They are so much better than cotton. (Sadly, they are hard to get here.)

How pretty!!! And what thoughtful gifts. I would love to find something to make some lint free dish towels from. I hate getting towel lint all over my clean dishes..makes them look not so clean!!!
