My move to Tennessee

I shall shortly be moving to Tennessee, and was intending to visit the property this week, but decided that driving 2660 miles, in three days is too much for this old guy, so have arranged for someone to go film the property, and take hundreds of pictures, next weekend, and I will set of from here in two weeks, in the Mack Camper, taking a week or more to get over there, enjoying the views and taking it easy - rushing across the country in a small car is not something I enjoy and having to do 2660 miles in just three days is crazy. So what if the seller wants to show the house on Tuesday morning - hell I'm doing him the favour by buying it, so his agent can show it next weekend to my representative, who will go crazy with a camera, and such, to fulfil the obligations of the contract (view within 14 days) without the need for me to rush over there like a demented fool.

So I will take it nice and easy, move over there in the Mack, leaving all the removal details to my sister in law, who offered to sort everything out, making the move painless for me. Nice gal... I get to move at a leisurely pace and have a stress less move to Eastern Tennessee where hopefully I will remain for a long long time, I am getting too darned old to move so often. Since 1996 I have lived in Colorado - four places; Tennessee - one place, North Dakota, two places, Arizona, two places, Indiana, and Washington, three places. We have moved across the country five times which is enough for me. First time we moved across country, from Tennessee to Arizona, fuel was $1.74 for diesel. Moving back there now, fuel is $4.10 for diesel, and I don't intend doing it more than once at that price.

As it is it will cost the bast part of $10,000 to move all the tractors, the equipment, the trailers and the chattels ..... EEEEEEEEEEK!

I think it is safe to say that cheap anything is gone for good now. emoticon

All the best for the move! Hope it all works out as you plan, and for a good price.

I do not particularly enjoy non stop driving - did it for years, and got fed up. Now I just like to dawdle along at 65 and stop whenever the mood hits me.

We have quite the refit to complete with the Mack, before we leave, as mould has destroyed large parts of flooring along with the carpeting - we have removed the mould mended flooring and painted a mould inhibitor onto the floor so far - we go soon to buy hardwood flooring to nail on to the painted floor - it will look fantastic and won't harbour moisture, so no more mould. Tennessee is a lot different to Washington so mould is easier to deal with there.

It will be good to get everything finished, and get on the road - the time betwixt desire and completion is always frustrating, but will be over soon.

Re: My move to Tennessee

I have just received the inspection of the house - it is not good - numerous electrical problems, rainwater drainage problems, leaky roofs, condensation inside the vinyl windows, and the worst - the crawl space is not accessible in most of the property, but the bit that is, has four untreated termite shelter tubes disappearing into a covered up ceiling. So I rather think that the property is in need of a few repairs before I put any money into it.

Luckily there a few more properties around the area, but I may run out of money, paying for all of the inspections... emoticon

I'm sorry you ran into such trouble with the house. Termites sound horrible!

Best of luck in finding just the right property for you.

Oh gosh....I'm really sorry to hear the house is in such bad repair.

I have no idea if the landlord where I am would be willing to rent the other house here, so you'd have a place to live while you take your time looking around for a place.

I did see a place even closer to me, but not sure how good the house is. It's 5 acres, with a house, in an area called Pressmen's Home. It was like $47,000 or some such. I'm not sure how much you're wanting to put into a place, initially, but I can also look from this end, if you need/want me to.

One thing, as we talked about yesterday....mold is a problem here in TN as well, but it's been SO wet lately. More rain than usual.

Anyway, if you'd like me to do some checking, just let me know. I'll do what I can from this end.

Thank you Saijen, We will be there in two or three weeks, and if we haven't found anything by then, we will look around. I want to be that area, so I will find something that is worth buying. I have looked at pictures of homes for $450,000, and a couple for $35,000. I would far rather have the latter, to the former - they did not look any better than the cheaper ones, at all.
One of the particularly expensive homes was an imitation castle, having bare brick walls inside, and twenty foot ceilings - imagine having to sweep the cobwebs from up there. All that for over $450K.. No thanks.

There are a couple of log cabin styles, that look good, but I don't think I want a log cabin. We will find something, the Goddess will make sure of that.

I am so glad I did not travel all that way, just to find that out, then have to come all the way back again - 5200 miles for nothing.

Some of the best areas around here are the town I'm in, Rogersville, Surgoinsville, Church Hill, Mount Carmel, some areas of Morristown (outskirts, by all means!!!), Bean Station, Mooresburg. A lot depends on how far from things you want to be.

Cosby is another pretty decent place. You do NOT want to be in Newport!!! Dandridge isn't too awfully bad. The area you were looking isn't too bad, either. Oh...and Camelot (the area where Pressmen's Home is) is pretty nice, too. There is also Kyle's Ford/Eidson area. Lots of 'country' type areas all around where I am.

I live out in the county, but am only 10 minutes from town, which I LOVE. close enough to get where I want to go without taking all day, but far enough out I don't have to contend with 'in-town living'. We can raise pretty much anything we'd like (for us, we'd have to get our Landlord's permission), and not have issues with laws and such.

I know you'll find the perfect place!!! I am so looking forward to meeting you both!!!

Today we got an offer on a 26 acre property with a log house accepted. Possession is June seventh which seems a heck of a long time away.. Patience is not my strongest point.

The house is about eight miles from Saijen, so if she don't like us when she meets us, we got problems.. emoticon

The house is heated with wood, and there is a lot of wood for burning on the property so heating bills just went down.
