Re: October Gabbing
Squeezing thumbs that surgery leads to a super speedy recovery!
Mexia caught the stomach bug last night. Not as bad as Willa and fortunately, we are not all zombies this morning. I have meetings at work so I got to escape the house for the day.

Re: October Gabbing
Thanks, Muladzh and TM.
I'll try to send the pain to Mother Earth, then. Hopefully, the worst will be over tomorrow at this time.

Re: October Gabbing
30 degrees?!? My Queeny, that is too cold for these Texas bones. I've been whining the few 50 degree mornings we've had.

Re: October Gabbing
We got a chilly 35˚ here this morning, after sunrise - it was supposed to be a low of 26˚ but I don't think it got there. We never have electric or gas heat overnight, so the house, as yet without the stoves fitted, was 57˚ this morning - I reckon that is good for no heat and a thick frost outside.. The hill was white until gone ten.
Hopefully you are doing well, Firle.

Re: October Gabbing
Hello Everyone!
I have come looking for Firle, but it doesn't sound like anyone has heard from her since her surgery. I am sending her positive thoughts and hope that she is doing OK without too much pain.

Re: October Gabbing
Hi Susa! No Firle yet. I've checked her facebook page over the weekend as well. She did say typing was going to be slow so I bet it's just the recovery period until she can get some more mobilitiy...or the dopey pain killers wear off!
Worked on the volunteer farm this morning. Kind of fun - there were only 2 of us and none of the managers. So we had to figure everything out ourselves. Of course, we were left a big list, but it was different not being able to turn around at any time and get clarification/ask a question. Kinda nice that they trusted us to do that while the manager took off for the other location. I think we did good too!
Sitting in the office now. It feels good to do that on days when I go to the farm in the morning!

Re: October Gabbing
I only got home Yesterday, and I was totally exhausted by the time I got here. Lots of mix-ups at the hospital, and not a whole lot of mental resilience left ...
When I started packing my little suitcase, I found that my shoes were missing. So a male apprentice went to the operating area and came back with some granny's shoes, saying that those were the only ones there ...
I wanted a copy of Sunday's x-ray, and was told that I should go there and ask for it after giving up my bed.
I was still trying to cope with the idea of losing my only pair of slippers when a dr arrived and told me I wasn't supposed to move my arm for four entire week. Then she told me other stuff (contact your GP for pain meds etc.) - while my mind was still rabbitting on about the shoes.
My ex was picking me up, but being late, as usual. So I was almost going out of my mind, when another guy popped up at my elbow - wanting to fix the sling I'm to wear the next six weeks. The surgeons picked the wrong size and the arm part needed to be shortened.
Can you imagine me standing in the middle this mayhem? I was dazed, stressed out and helpless.
Fortunately, it was all resolved.
The dr went away, leaving me with documentation and a prescription for physical therapy.
The head nurse arrived, with my shoes and a CD from the x-ray lady.
My ex arrived and patiently carried my stuff to the guy's workshop, where he proceeded to fix my sling thing.
Then he took me home and even cooked lunch.
Phew.
I spent the rest of the day catching up, calling people and trying to rest. In the middle of a ferocious fall storm ...
My neighbor helped me again with a shower, and I gratefully went to bed. And finally, I managed to sleep soundly for the first time in almost a week.
Today, I get a visit from a friend, and I will see my GP in the afternoon. And that's totally enough for the day.

Re: October Gabbing
That doesn't sound like fun, Firle, Glad you are out of the hospital, and on the way to mending. Four weeks sounds about right, try to keep from moving, though it is impossible to immobilise the shoulder completely without a full body cast..
