I went on Tues and Wed morning this week, each time for 5-6 hours. It's fun because the work is so varied. I've done a lot from harvesting, packing CSA shares, weeding, making soil for seed trays, planting seeds, and organizing the green house. I've taken some pictures but of course I can't get my phone to talk to my computer these days! nondisclosed_email@example.com (TexasMadness)Thu, 10 Oct 2013 14:38:37 +0000 Re: No homesteading at my house this winterhttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p245908,from=rss#post245908https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p245908,from=rss#post245908Looks like you're fitting right in! And with this garden, you can just as much or as little as works for you.    nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Fri, 04 Oct 2013 07:43:12 +0000 Re: No homesteading at my house this winterhttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p245906,from=rss#post245906https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p245906,from=rss#post245906A perfect solution, TM.. It was supposed to be 9-9:30 and then they encourage you to stay and work if you can. I had a staff meeting at 10 but had said I might be a little late, so I thought I might pitch in a bit. Turns out they were swamped with some things that had to get done before the weekend so it was about 5 minutes of 'orientation' and then "ok, who is going to stay to work?" I got a message from work that the meeting was cancelled so I ended up staying until 1! It was great fun. We potted up a bunch of seedlings a plant sale this weekend and got everything ready for that. We weeded a bunch of rows of arugula, pulling out the pigweed...which, of course, we fed to the pigs! I then helped pack for the CSA boxes for tomorrow. It was so nice to be out and get dirty. And I got to bring home things left over from the Tuesday market - squash, kale, green onions and tomatoes. I look forward to next week!nondisclosed_email@example.com (TexasMadness)Thu, 03 Oct 2013 20:47:29 +0000 Re: No homesteading at my house this winterhttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p245896,from=rss#post245896https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p245896,from=rss#post245896Sounds like a great plan! And yes, maybe you could do without the stress of doing it all yourself.   nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Wed, 02 Oct 2013 16:12:39 +0000 No homesteading at my house this winterhttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p245895,from=rss#post245895https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p245895,from=rss#post245895I gave up on the vegetable garden at home during the spring. I had high hopes to get it going this fall but things just haven't worked out. Between working on the farm and just having a few too many things to carry on my shoulders, I've decided to let is rest until next spring when I will re-evaluate. BUT, I won't be without gardening! I can still play in the dirt at the farm, but that is usually a bit more stressful than I would like because of the family dynamics. So I've decided to volunteer at a local farm to do a shift once a week. I can play in the dirt and take home "seconds" (vegetables that are damaged or somehow not pretty enough for sales). I can get fresh veggies but don't have to worry about all the hassle of doing every bit of it myself. I'm going to the orientation session tomorrow and hopefully will start next Wednesday morning. Here's the farm: Green Gate Farms nondisclosed_email@example.com (TexasMadness)Wed, 02 Oct 2013 14:50:04 +0000
