January Jaw-wagging

So, is this month going to be remarkably empty one on the Porch, or are we to moan and complain that it died?

The problem is, somebody doesn't like us, I can feel it, seething in the background - malice is aimed at the Porch, and I can't do much about it, if nobody helps.

This year has promises of better things, but only if we make the effort to push past the apathetic acceptance of failure.

Thank you for setting this up, Muladzh.

I can sense the apathy here - it takes me, as well.

I'm going to put in a picture. Maybe sequoia strength will help. They are very tenacious trees, after all.

So, what can I do to help?

Break through, get past it, make it go away, and just keep on posting. Mention the problem to other members who are on Facebook. If nothing is done, this will go the way of hundreds of other boards - nobody will post, and just a few will come see if anything is new, and then they too will delete the bookmark. The malice is strong and tangible, Dupi felt it first - he told me come look.

Say hi to Dupi and send him my love. emoticon

The weather here has been warm and rainy, but today, I woke late. It was just before sunrise, and the sky was brilliant and warm. I love that.

I stayed in the kitchen to watch the sunrise. It's late here, at around 9am right now.

I also love being this early in a year. It feels like everything is possible, and I enjoy this feeling.

I'll see the Porch just like this. Ready to unfold into new possibilities, full of fresh, new energy.

Today I sat waiting for UPS - a Wilson Cell Phone Booster system came, eventually. It is huge, not the tiny one used as a cradle, but one that has large external antenna, and large internal antenna - mounted seventy feet from each other, with ten feet of vertical distance, they will give a full signal to the house where no service exists - from the roof, there is a -91 db signal - about three bars. I hope to get a -50 db signal all over the house with it fitted. It came in a 30" by 12" by 6" box, full of bits and pieces. I shall admit triumph or defeat, later.

Re: January Jaw-wagging

That booster sounds like a really huge thing! Good luck with setting it all up and getting a good connection through it.

Today, I woke up to clear skys and some frost on the ground, which has already disappeared. Actually, I woke up because my "alarm clock" turned on its light. I realized how much I had missed that during this vacation and set the alarm to 8am. It was good to wake up to light in the room!

Sunrise is still around 9am here. The joys of living in the north.

Today I plan to go for a walk, get some groceries and write lots. I love when a story comes together, and this one is doing so. Might reach 20k words, when it's all done. It's a prequel to a dragon novel I'm writing, and setting up as product funnel. The short story will be the intro to the dragon trilogy, and hopefully draw people in to want more.

It's a good Saturday in Firle-land!

ah, dragons. I like the scaly folk. In days of old, we the wys, were known as friends to the dragons. But now, people assume they were and are myths, silly folk. but then, they think faeries are a myth too. They should go sleep in my house in Indiana for a night, they will soon lose that silly idea.

Re: January Jaw-wagging

I've always liked dragons. Of course, that's partly because I so much enjoyed the Pern novels - I discovered fantasy through them, although McCaffrey later turned them into a kind of SF.

I can sense how it is to be a dragon, as well. I've often imagined flying through the air on my own wings. My dragon self would have blue and silver scales.

Anyway, I love writing stories with dragons in it. Hope the real ones approve.

Yesterday, I started the tutorial of a writing program called Scrivener. It basically organizes a writing project with chapers and research and notes etc. And since I have a hard time plotting, this sounds like a good thing - one can move chapters back and forth in the timeline of the book. As the novel I write now has three main characters who take a while before starting to interact, having such a function makes my writing life much easier.

I also plan to use it to compile a short story collection to sell through Amazon. Very much looking forward to that.

Just searched for scrivener, and found the mac version for $40, I will research some, and see if it is useful to me.

Re: January Jaw-wagging

I think it was originally developed for the Mac, so it's more advanced in that version. I love how their free trial is for 30 active days - that is, days that you actually open it.

Today, I created new pages for my writers coaching. I find I can only work for a certain time on these things, so I'll just allow for natural progess. Looks like I'll reorganize the site anyway.

No writing today. Just couldn't get into it, and that's a shame for a writers' coach to say. But it happens. Today is also the final day of my vacation, I go back to work tomorrow. I might actually have a little to do there, for a change...

I'm looking forward to my regular walks. In fact, when I finally can quit that job, I want to get a little dog so I'll force myself to go outside and walk. Otherwise I won't leave my flat for days. And I'll love having a little dog as companion.
