Connection to animals?

I always loved animals, maybe more so than most humans.

My best animal friends are horses, but I also relate well to dogs and cats. Both like to seek me out. When I was a kid, I wanted to become an animal trainer, and always thought that animals are a bit like little children in the way they think and behave.

On the other hand, it's harder for me to connect to birds like geese or chicken. They feel a little alien to me, and when I found out they are basically the dinosaurs of today, I wasn't really surprised.

And then there are dragons. I often feel as if I was one at some time.

So, are there animals you feel drawn to? Animals that you totally get? And are there aothers you stay away from?

Most mammals like me, dogs particularly, cats somewhat less. Birds don't really like me at all, but being the nearest relation to the old dinosaurs it really is hardly surprising. they are very different to us, whereas the mammals are very similar.

If I remember that a clever dog is like a two year old, I get on with them quite well. It is the expectation of understanding that makes people not like dogs, they regard them as stupid. I rather think it is the people show their stupidity by wanting a dog to understand English, or German. Dogs don't, they understand specific groups of sound, nothing else. They do, however listen to everything you say.

My family breeds horses, different branches, different horses, we have Clydesdales that my immediate family has, Cleveland Bays, that my Cousin breeds, Gypsy Heavies, that my second cousins, all Gypsies, breed and sell all over Europe, they are the long main and tail piebald and skewbald tough looking fifteen to sixteen and a half hand pulling horses. A distant cousin breeds Percheron workers, good pullers and very pretty. WE have Shires, and Suffolks in the family too. I enjoy the company of horses, though the usual riding horse seems way too small. Growing up riding the heavy horses spoils you for the dainty things in riding stables. My personal favourite horse was a beautiful Mongolian Heavy War horse, Mare, sixteen hands, and heavy. She looked like the Mongolian pony, but a lot larger. I had her from my early teens to my emigration, she died an old lady, in 1996. I used to ride her everywhere. Now I just have the two dogs.

That makes me wish I could go and live with one of your horse-breeding cousins. Love Gypsy Vanners - so beautiful.

I've always connected to [sign in to see URL] about any of them, with a few exceptions, and those are simply because I've not had an opportunity to try (lions, bears, alligators, etc).

The ones I seem to communicate with the best are of the canine variety. Some feline, and birds of all kinds. Horses, kinda [sign in to see URL] I was working with a neighbor's horses when I was a teen, I got to work with a gorgeous 17 hand black Appaloosa. He'd never been ridden, had never had a bit or bridle on, never had a blanket or saddle. By the time I was done with him, I could ride him, and he behaved beautifully. If I'd not been able to communicate with him, we would have had a lot more issues than we did! LOL> The first time I was on his [sign in to see URL] back, no bit, no bridle, nothing to hold on to, he ended up running me into a barbed wire fence, the corner of a metal shed and finally managed to dumb me off on a tree stump, knocking the breath out of me. When I was able to breathe again, I got up, went to his head, grabbed both of his ears and pulled his face down to mine. Looked him in the eye, and told him "I" am the boss!!! You WILL do as I ask. I will not TELL you what to do, but I will ask, and I expect a respectful reply. This was done verbally, while also telling him in other ways, that I had no intention of harming him or asking him to do anything out of the ordinary. We got along fine after that.

Anyone who has raised wolves, or wolf hybrids knows they are a whole different ballgame from dogs, so my communications have helped there. Cats are a bit more aloof (I think they are fur covered aliens, to be [sign in to see URL])and have their own ideas about things, but they do listen at times.

I'm totally tied to [sign in to see URL] been my whole life. I literally can not live without a cat in my life. I tried it with my second husband, who hated cats. I nearly faded away from this world completely. emoticon I've never been so depressed, or alone in my life.
[sign in to see URL] have 6 indoor cats. My life is busy, crazy, full of cat hair and mess and I would not change a thing! emoticon
