I had a fireplace in the house where I grew up. I remember running in from playing outside in the [sign in to see URL] backing up to that fireplace to get warm! Such a cozy feeling...♥

Germans like fireplaces so much that wood is getting scarce - at least that was a headline recently.

I dream of having a home with a fireplace or oven.

I intend to burn anthracite as well as wood - anthracite is a smoke-less coal, that gives good heat, and isn't going to run out in this area for a long long time. We have acres of wood we can harvest for at least twenty years, so running out is not going to be a problem here. We are debating getting another chimney built, for a stove in the living room.. We will need a permit, and estimate before we decide.

Some of the places we've looked at have fireplaces. Some of them are gas, but some are wood. Muladzh, you'll find more fireplaces and wood stoves in this area than just about any other, I think. The neighbor in front of us has a fireplace, and the one we can see next door also has a fireplace, and you can see chimney smoke frequently around here, just in this small general area. Our house has 2 coal fireplaces, but we can't really use them, so, that's where we have our gas heaters. If/when we finally do buy a house, I hope it has a fireplace! I love a good wood fire. Love the smell, the sound of the wood [sign in to see URL], keeping my fingers crossed. It's not a defining factor in our search, but it doesn't hurt things any if it has [sign in to see URL]

I am counting the days until we can get the chimney fixed and a stove burning. I will get a quote for another chimney while I am at it - so we can have a stove in the living room, though we need to weed out the furniture a bit to get room to put one. This winter has been too darn cold in this house - insulation would be good thing to get too.
