Kidney maintenance

Kidney stones are becoming commonplace these days - ten times more people suffer from them, than did thirty years ago. Such an increase can only mean one thing - diet is the primary cause of any bodily stones.

First, and foremost, I suggest everyone with history of stones research and purchase a herbal remedy named 'Renavive ' This remedy is without a doubt, the fastest way to calm down a painful kidney. It works, like all good herbal remedies, by addressing the problem rather than just the symptoms, and it does work, where the drugs fail.

Lemon juice in water is the very best drink to dissolve stones, but if you, like me, had nausea due to pain, lemon juice is very hard to keep down - pure orange juice works very well - large amounts, not just a small glass full - a couple of litres a day worked with the Renavive in four days to start breaking up a peanut size - surgery for me was not an option - but this combination worked very quickly.

About food - Stones are made up of minerals and bodily products in various amounts - the more usual is mostly Calcium Oxalate, with Uric acid stones being a close second. The oxalate stones dissolve in acids like lemon or orange juice, the uric acid stones dissolve in tart cherry juice - I buy organic concentrated tart cherry juice from health stores, this works very well to control gout as well.

Dietary concerns with stones are specific - the more susceptible people should limit the green vegetable portions, particularly spinach - very high in oxalate. Rhubarb is also very high, and will contribute to an overload of oxalate - the body produces oxalate itself, so people who are susceptible to stones should limit the amount they consume - researching oxalate quantities is a good idea - google has thousands of articles.

The Calcium part of the compound comes from supplemental calcium from health stores - if susceptible don't take extra calcium - simple as that. over consumption of dairy, too much protein - particularly with the paleo diet guidelines, will also start stones growing - Paleo is not the best way of eating - though the hype about it would suggest it is - however, they are completely wrong about the history. Archaeologists are fully aware of the beginnings of agriculture; it happened thousands of years earlier than any of the Paleo books admit - and the reasons for it are clearly defined in history... Agriculture began because the growth of population over gathered the wild grains and vegetables - they had to grow them in fixed villages, to keep the dietary needs satisfied. Agriculture did not change the human diet, it allowed it to continue. Grain is not the bad guy in diet - too much grain is. The world is heading for obesity not because they eat grains, or even sugar - they are obese because they eat far too much of everything.

To eat a pure Paleo diet will cause the amount of Calcium in the blood to increase. This in turn, will cause the production or separation of oxalate, which will bind with calcium and create stones in the susceptible - this is science, not supposition. IF you get stones, Paleo diets will cause you to have more of them.

Potato, Bananas, Bread and fruit ( apples, oranges, pears) will help keep stones at bay. Strawberries, blueberries, rhubarb, yam, sweet potato and turnip will encourage stone production. Some people are not susceptible, so can eat those foods, others should refrain from them - unless they enjoy the exquisite pain of stones. When I have finished all of my research, I will add to this thread.

Thank you for that information. We eat basically all the right things for not getting them, but I have copy/pasted that for future use, just in case. emoticon

Re: Kidney maintenance

I will provide a comprehensive list when I complete my research.

About Paleo diets - I followed such a diet until I discovered problems I would not have expected - the list is worrisome, particularly as every problem I had recently succumbed to, was described in great detail in comments about Paleo on various forums, lists and health sites. All of the problems that I had attributed to onset ageing were in fact, body reactions to high protein low carb diets like Paleo and similar.
This set me to looking into historic dietary trends - not so much health reports, but trends and subsequent ill health. This led me to the conclusion that grains and starches have been given a bad reputation by ignorant authors who write about the bad guy on the block, and ignore the actual causes of the ill health of people.

Starch and grain consumption has declined over the last fifty years, but obesity has increased massively. If the starch and grain factor cannot be blamed, as consumption is down considerably over fifty years, and massively over one hundred fifty years. Therefore something else is responsible for the complete epidemic obesity that 80% of the population is suffering from.

Obesity is so common, people are now coming to tell us that skinny is bad, and people are supposed to be chunky. Lies, all of it.

Observations of mine, since abandoning Paleo in favour of an earlier diet have shown that by eating bread, cake, ice-cream, apples pears, bananas, cookies and less meat, with limiting vegetables to low oxalate varieties, have shown a decrease in weight of ten pounds, and increase of muscle in the biceps, and thighs, an increase in energy, increase in intellect, better eyesight, lower BP, better chemistry, less fatigue, more alert attention, and a few others... This is in three weeks, whilst suffering from kidney stones.......

The difference in my health since leaving the Paleo diet is amazing - I would not have thought it possible. The conclusion that has to be understood, is that obesity really is the result of eating too much. Basically, if the food is natural, you CAN eat anything, providing you don't get greedy.

About sugar - Sugar is not the evil it is made out to be - corn syrup, fructose, dextrose and a few other ose type sugars are the problem. Sucrose by itself is fine, and if not guzzled greedily, will not cause weight gain.

We are still researching this, whilst eating an eighteenth century diet - like my grandparents learned from their parents.. Food is great, and I am gaining muscle and losing weight.

Research is fascinating - what you knew one month, is proved incorrect by continued research the next month.

I will add more when I have more conclusions.

Truer words were never spoken.

I've done "paleo light" in the past. The main thing it does for me is cut out all processed foods. If I bother to bake my own bread, then I'm going to eat it! But the "bread" sold in cellophane at the grocery store that doesn't mold after 2 weeks? That chemical soup is not natural!

We are finding that fresh baked sourdough is about the best bread round here - no preservatives, no additions to the flour, and no yeast - we get it from Earth Fare usually, if they have it.

Still gaining muscle, losing weight and feeling great, and I am over sixty. I am excited about this. emoticon

Re: Kidney maintenance

I've always looked to what my grandparents ate. Garden vegetables, fresh and home preserved. Fruits...same. Hand raised meat...chicken, pork, beef, Fish caught.
Homemade breads and desserts.
And not a single one was over weight, or had any of the problems associated with it.
I can't raise my own meats, but do my own vegetables, or hit the farmers markets for veggies and fruits. And though I do not make my own breads, I do try to buy the local Amish ones...they are so good! emoticon

Re: Kidney maintenance

One thing I have discovered....
For a very long time, I used artificial sweeteners in my tea (even used Stevia), bought diet this, diet that (still do drink diet green tea, but only cause they don't make the flavor I love in non-diet...go figure!), but I've cut WAY down on a lot of things that don't use real sugar.

I recently had a really good check-up with my doc, and even better lab work done. I've had the best labs I've had in YEARS!!! the only thing I've changed??? Using a lot of artificial sweeteners! My weight is going down, my cholesterol...all of it...good, bad and triglycerides are all in normal range, everything came back in normal range! That is a first for me since I can't remember when!!! I don't eat nearly as much bread or starchy foods as I used to, but have not cut them out...I just don't eat as many. I don't particularly watch what I eat. I do ice cream, cake, candy...pretty much eat anything I want...just in moderation, and I get these results! Heck yeah!!! emoticon

Saijen, somehow, I'm confused.

You reduced artificial sweeteners, right? And got those great results?

Woohooo!

I stay away from artificial sweeteners. Have all my life. (And I wish I could lose weight.)
