This prompted me to research everything I could - being a researcher and author helps with that, if I get the urge, I will research something until I know everything there is to know about it. Gout unfortunately is, like most medical conditions, the subject of conflicting research. Trying most of the things the medical profession will throw at gout makes the pain rather worse, the swelling more and the anger and misery far worse. Some of the herbal remedies work well, but take a few days to get into the swing of it. By far the best way of dealing with it is dietary. By cutting out high purine foods, and aiming at low oxalate things, gout can be knocked down in a day. This morning after having eaten a pound of frozen cherries yesterday, with tart cherry juice drink, a couple of yoghurts, and potatoes, the gout is quite reduced, making life much better - I have to keep up the good foods for another couple of days and it will have gone completely.. Gout is horrible. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Thu, 01 May 2014 15:48:58 +0000 Re: April Springtime Chatter and Gossiphttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247057,from=rss#post247057https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247057,from=rss#post247057 Morning everyone. Well we made it to May. New month, new theme at Paradise. Man this year is flying by. On the bright side I'm one day closer to freedom. But speaking of that freedom I'm in a rush. It's raining and flooding here so the commute to work is going to be a long one. I need to get going. Have a fabulous day everyone. Muladzh, I hope you are feeling better soon. My father suffers with gout so I know how painful it is. Real friends are those who, when you feel you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel you've done a permanent job. ~Author Unknownnondisclosed_email@example.com (Justbec)Thu, 01 May 2014 09:40:21 +0000 Re: April Springtime Chatter and Gossiphttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247055,from=rss#post247055https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247055,from=rss#post247055Today is a muggy day, storms and rain around, threatening strong winds, and hail. The lack of A/C is annoying, but we do not want to have to pay the thousands of dollars to get the system up to par. The windows will be in by the end of the month, and we can figure out what to do about keeping cool then. IT isn't so much the heat, but the humidity - yucky.. I ate something I shouldn't and for the first in a year, gout has arrived to make life miserable - got the cherries down, the starch and the other good things, and today is not so bad as yesterday. Not sure what I ate that set it off, but we had some processed meat a couple of days ago, and heaven only knows what that had in it. Purines are the culprit for Gout, so keeping them down is usually the first thing in my thoughts - so we know what to eat to rid the attack, and we will try keep it away for longer than a year this time. The plumbers returned and changed out a drain pan I had ordered wrongly - wasn't large enough -now is. An annoying small dog is trying to get to see our chihuahua - he does not like her, is fixed so has not interest, she hangs about outside the door for hours, barking at us. Most annoying. Queenie, try low purine foods, and gelatine to help the arthritis in your toe - steroids may work but they are not a cure, and will make it eventually worse. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Wed, 30 Apr 2014 16:02:36 +0000 Re: April Springtime Chatter and Gossiphttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247054,from=rss#post247054https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247054,from=rss#post247054 GOOD WEDNESDAY MY FRIENDS! Another gorgeous day here. I got all my plants potted, as well as Mom's yesterday. Today need to clean cat boxes and then I have an appointment at the Podiatrist, to see if something can be done about the arthritis in my big toe....can barely walk on it. Who knows......probably just a shot of steroids. But not this appointment, this will be a meet and greet. Besides that, a little slower day. Up and moving early today. Have a lot to do. Need to re-caulk the spare room bathtub, plant my potted annual plants (they are sitting in the garage), then go help Mom plant her's, as well as some outdoor perennials...might separate and toss in a load or two of laundry in between! But the weather is going to get gorgeous. Lows in the 40's....highs in the upper 70's...almost 80 degrees by Thursday. But for now.....COFFEE....I NEED COFFEE! Getting everything done today, so my friend can have my full attention after she arrives tomorrow afternoon. I just made the bed for her, but I still have to do a grocery run, a skype call and create two blogposts plus set up the respective newsletter. Of course, that didn't stop me from working on the new version of my Workshop. I'm giving myself four weeks to market it really truly. And now I feel so good about it that I will market it to writers' groups without qualms. Weather is brilliant! I now have a traction collar, and strict instructions on how to use it. I am supposed to work up to keeping it on for two hours, I can manage ten minutes so far. Once I can keep it on for two hours, it will take a couple of weeks before it is completely effective. We shall see.. I hope you all had lovely weekends, doing what ever you would all do over Easter. We worked on the RV site, all day Saturday and half a day Sunday. Just about ready for gravel. While hubby was building the retaining wall. I mowed the lawn, put down weed and feed and watered. Used the Rototiller on the garden, got it ready to go, and transplanted a couple of bright ORANGE Gerber Daisy''s into a bright orange Southwest Pot I have. Still have to leave it in the garage at night, but put it out in the sunlight during the day. But I have to grab them Orange ones....or they go fast! Then we had a "traditional Easter ham" dinner with Mom and Dad. All in all a very productive and nice weekend. Now we have a nice sunny day, Dad needs a hair cut and some weeding done...so I'll go over there later. But the rest of the week we have a good chance of rain. ANY WHO...I will be around this morning some....LAUNDRY! HUBBY just went to "look" at the gravel to see what kind we want. He said with 70% rain tomorrow, and then chances of rain all week......that huge dump truck will sink if it drives up on the soggy, muddy area we have all nice and level now!!! YEP....just got back. They will be delivering the gravel in a few hours!! YIPPIE!! Tonight is also tradition at Mom and Dad's....the day AFTER EASTER....because we've always had leftover ham. Mom makes ham and corn fritters.....those corn fritters are addicting!! MULDAZH...I used to pull my neck out at the beginning of every school year. I was not ready to be lifting all those heavy pans. A good way to help that....lay on the bed, with your head basically hanging off the foot end. Take a rolled up towel, put under you head, bring sides up over your ears...and have Froggy take a hold of both ends and SLOWLY pull (or if she is not strong enough) lean her full weight back...making sure that the towel DOES NOT SLIP OFF YOUR HEAD....ONLY PULL back until she sees your shoulder move a tiny bit. THEN SHE NEEDS TO HOLD as long as she can. Do this several times a day. What usually happens is we lift, or turn wrong and pinches a bit of the gel like disc between the vertebrae. That SLOW pulling allows the vertebrae to open back up and the disc to move back into place. PUT ON AN ICE PACK for 15 minutes after doing this... It's the only natural thing that has ever helped my neck.... nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Mon, 21 Apr 2014 18:20:25 +0000 Re: April Springtime Chatter and Gossiphttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247010,from=rss#post247010https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247010,from=rss#post247010Had a somewhat lazy day, with great weather. We know her as Èostre, which is really close in pronunciation as the christian easter... I find this rather amusing.. They moved their birth celebration to fit with our Yule festivals as well.. I don't really celebrate this equinox - I am more demonstrative on May Day.. This day however, is the reason for all of the chocolate that overloads the shops at this time of year, and often there are sales about now too. My neck feels somewhat better than it did yesterday, and I managed to sleep laying down with no particular discomfort, which is a lot better than sleeping in a very uncomfortable chair all night. Don't know what I did, but it is painful.. The last two days have been very uncomfortable, though it seems to be a little less painful, maybe it is healing. Either that or I am getting used to it. The worst part is not being able to lay down - Never before had I slept in upright, but the kidney stones made it happen, and now the neck ache. It is not fun at all.. Driving back from Rogersville today, after having fuelled the Expedition at Food City (15c off a gallon) We espied a red IQ coming the other way. Had we been in our Silver IQ we could have waved frantically and possibly met the person.. (IQ drivers are very friendly to each other, like Jeeps but more so.) Did Spring Cleaning today - the workers had covered the entire house with dust, which we managed to remove from all surfaces - all except my office, that is too cluttered to clean easily.. That will happen when my neck hurts less. The Kitchen is coming on nicely, the shelves are now in the right places, and Monday is the day the rest of the shelves arrive, so Tuesday we should finish the kitchen.. I doubt it, something else will crop up, and a delay will happen.. I have some ideas about the electrics that do not involve the moronic idiot electrician - he is 24, so thinks he knows everything and that what he decides is what people will have - I regret having met the idiot.. Unfortunately electricians are few and far between around here, so I may have to do it myself - I know the principal, so I can do it, just ain't qualified. Need to change the starter motor of the recent purchase pick-up - when we have fixed all the problems it will be a good truck. The advantage of getting an old truck for next to nothing is that even putting a rebuilt transmission, a starter motor, an alternator and new battery cables is not going to make it too costly. Book price on this truck and bed in good condition is $6800. Even with the new bits we haven't paid that much. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Sun, 20 Apr 2014 03:18:08 +0000 Re: April Springtime Chatter and Gossiphttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247004,from=rss#post247004https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247004,from=rss#post247004 Good morning everyone. Feedback from my first beta-reader is encouraging.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Sat, 19 Apr 2014 05:16:05 +0000 Re: April Springtime Chatter and Gossiphttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247000,from=rss#post247000https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247000,from=rss#post247000 GOOD FRIDAY MY FRIENDS! Well, I shall only be online a wee bit this morning. Need to grab a shower and then pick Mom up. Grocery shopping and hitting some store ads. Then probably lunch out and we dumped more dirt in her sink hole in the back. So today after we get back I will help her plant the rest of the bulbs we dug up. This weekend will be very busy. Hubby wants to get the rest of the dirt out.....leveled....landscape timbers in place...so he can have gravel delivered next week. We shall see if we can do all that...LMAO ANYHO....IF I DON'T SEE YOU ALL AGAIN....HAVE A WONDERFUL FRIDAY AND A FABULOUS WEEKEND! OH........and Blessed Ostara and Happy Easter. FIRLE...the only feedback I could give you on your video: Video - "What Makes Short Stories Tick?" Would be that you tend to drop your voice on occasion. Like in the beginning just before you say, "at the end I will give you a link"...you really drop your voice so much so that if I had any hearing problems, I would not have heard that... But you have such a lovely voice...I could listen to you forever. Love this life, and wish I could quit that day job and really live this. That will come soon enough.. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Fri, 18 Apr 2014 21:10:40 +0000 Re: April Springtime Chatter and Gossiphttps://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p246999,from=rss#post246999https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p246999,from=rss#post246999Queeny: Hope your Dad can get some relief! What a round of doctores to go to! I just had a mammography yesterday, all is well. The doc even said that he rarely gets to see such nice and even tissue. So there.   Lovely weather yesterday, rain started at night. Today is very cloudy, with more rain very likely - however, the weatherpeople promise that the weekend will be very nice. It's a public holiday here, which means all stores are closed. In fact, in many towns, dancing and entertainment is forbidden. Such is the hold of the churches yet. *shrugs* Would love some feedback on the video (you'll have to go back a page to see the link). And yes, I did finish the first draft of the dragon story, and already know I will change the ending and put in another scene. It is now over 13k which takes it firmly into the realm of the novelette. That's fine, it's supposed to be the teaser for a whole series of novellas. And I already know the next one - and it's not what I originally planned. Yay for surprise enemies. As you can see, I'm having much fun with my writing, and my coaching. Love this life, and wish I could quit that day job and really live this.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Fri, 18 Apr 2014 07:25:04 +0000
