Re: My latest adventure

Well, it kind of did come together yesterday night - after I sent out the newsletter heavily promoting the revised page.

And then I realized why it wasn't working. emoticon

I went off the writers' path when I created the copy for the sales page. I tried to please those who were not writers per se, but who are a large part of my email list - businesspeople who market.

And while I believe that story telling is a huge part of good marketing, the packages (especially the VIP one!) are geared to writers.

So sales copy and products do not fit and don't work with each other - no wonder nobody bought the workshop!

Hugh D'OH moment. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Okay, now I know the problem. The solution is trickier.

I want to run a writers' workhop right now. That's what it was all about in most of my brain (except for the part that screamed that I have to make money...). So rewrite the copy, talk about being creative and inspired, talk about the craft and practice and regular work, talk about group power - and market to my writing groups. I might push it back a week, to give me more time for promotion.

Then tell people that there will be a workshop about Story Telling for Marketing in Fall. That will need different content, because the aim is different. I can do it, though, and the writers who have learned to write short stories with me, might be open to the idea that they need to market, as well, by fall.

*huge sigh*

Still not sure how to explain / market that shift in focus. I will definitely spin something about higher service etc. (which isn't exactly a lie).

FIRLE....just a wee speed bump in the road to success. If you look at it like a learning lesson, you will be all the better for things like this in the future.
And I know you will eventually be a total success. emoticon

Oh, it is definitely a learning lesson! emoticon

I'll do a Writers' Workshop now - this is what my heart tells me - and a Marketing Workshop in Fall, for those of my business friends who want to learn how to write effective stories for their websites.

Both are about connecting, but the focus is slightly different, and the content will have to be slightly different. And I'll need an entirely different VIP offer for the business friends. They are not really interested in putting their business stories into an anthology. emoticon

So yeah, today, I'll rearrange the sales pages (I'll keep the one I have around for the Marketing Workship, minus the offers for now.), and put up a new page with the clear offer for writers.

Oops. Yes, that is an important distinction. Kudos to you for catching it, though, and reworking the copy to target the audience you intend for this workshop to help. Things should go more smoothly here on out and the next time you offer the workshop.

Thanks, Renee.

I really hope so. I spent yesterday evening and this morning tweaking things, including my AWeber autoresponder for those who buy (so many things to think of!).

So this is the new Workshop: ]The Short Story Workshop

I hope it's much clearer now, and the different packages really speak to authors.

And here's my Runboard for the Workshop: ]Writers' Dream Coach
(It can use a bit more work, especially on the CSS stuff, but it's okay for now.)
