Centre for Pagan Studies

I hope this is the correct place for this thread. I had a great opportunity to attend a talk by John Belham-Payne, and his wife, Julie, at a local pagan store this week. For those not familiar with John, you can learn a bit more about him [url=[sign in to see URL]

He shared a bit about his background and how he came to the Craft, and the founding of the ]Centre for Pagan Studies after becoming frustrated with the lack of quality information for pagans. Doreen Valiente became involved with the CFPS in the 1990's and, upon her death, left her considerable collection of books and other pagan artifacts to John, including Gerald Gardiner's original Book of Shadows.

In the interest of protecting the collection, John founded the #[sign in to see URL]]Doreen Valiente Foundation, a charitable trust to which the entire collection bequeathed to him was donated (except for one of Doreen's necklaces, which is the only thing he is keeping for himself, for sentimental reasons), so that it could never be split up or sold off, and so that it could be properly preserved, protected and made accessible to all.

The CFPS is also in the process of opening the world's first accredited Witchcraft Museum. They plan to open 5 museums in the UK, and have begun talks to open museums in Florida and in Kentucky, where pieces of the collection will rotate through from time to time so that as many people as possible will be able to view it. Below is a picture of the Book of Shadows (I had permission to photograph it). John was adamant that the collection belongs to us all and he wants to ensure that it stays intact.

Edited to add that the Centre for Pagan Studies is now also its own publishing house and is looking for authors. They are not looking for a "Spell a Day" type material, but are interested in good, quality materials from all paths, not just Wicca. John made it a point to say that authors publishing with them will make more than with other publishing houses and they will be paid on time. The publishing house came about because of the CFPS own experience with other publishing houses who have yet to pay them for work done years ago.

Not meaning to be a commercial for them, but I was very impressed by them and wanted to share what I had learned.
