I am finding life so laid back nowadays - nothing fazes me, nothing is stressful, even things that used to get my heart racing are now even keeled. We eat six or seven times a day, eating what we want, balancing it with slow release carbohydrates and keeping out temperatures much higher than before. I am running in the high 98s most of the time, but Froggy is a whopping 99˚+ most of the time, waking up in the high 98s. She is much happier, though daily she asks if we have gone mad, or are we really benefiting from the amount of food we are eating. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Tue, 10 Jun 2014 18:23:43 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247346,from=rss#post247346https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247346,from=rss#post247346Thank you for the advice...first time I've been able to get back in here. Nowadays I am eating portions that are a third of my recent past meals, with snacks that are a piece of fruit, or berries, a bit of cheese, being ten times smaller than recent past pieces, and drinking much less. My almost constant dry mouth that Paleo eating gave me has gone, now I am hydrated well, with a tenth the amount of fluid intake. A pack of burgers, a favourite easy meal, used to last a couple of days - now they last a week. We buy bags of Atlantic Cod - that used to make two meals for each of us.. they now make eight meals. And we are less hungry, feel far more cheerful, and don't care any more about things that used to stress us, like diet, and weight, and such.. We are fine, temperatures are fine, BP is much better than it was, heart rate is much better than it was - the most amazing thing is I am no longer grumpy, instead I am laid back, and nothing stresses me. That is a first for years. I am finding the metaphysical work I do all the time now works better, is faster applied, and keeps going. A definite advantage. We should have gone this route when I first learned about it, thirty five years ago......nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Wed, 04 Jun 2014 22:13:10 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247272,from=rss#post247272https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247272,from=rss#post247272That sounds like a good idea. Don't fret, just keep the portions small enough to keep hunger at bay. It takes a while, sometimes, but just think about the amounts, keeping them small. Some people keep the food intake the same, and start snacking between meals - this has about doubled the amount of food they eat - that is not the best approach to this. Imagine that the meals are snack sized smaller than before, so that when you eat the meal and then the snack you have the same amount you would have had with the meal, had you not reduced it. I am finding that I don't want to eat any where near as much as I did, just be snacking regularly. I am not shrinking rapidly, but am feeling better, less bloated, more comfortable, so I will keep it at the same level. It can take a month to get things going in the right direction, so take it slow and easy. In my case, it has taken ten years to get to this weight, I can certainly take a while getting set to lose it all again. IF I were not doing this regimen, I would still be feeling bad, and getting bigger. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Wed, 04 Jun 2014 13:04:05 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247267,from=rss#post247267https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247267,from=rss#post247267I used to run cold all the time. 36.5C or about that. Quite simply having a couple of slices is fine, as is a beefburger, or an egg or two, or slice of ham.. Take something fast along with you, just to boost things up, then eat some slow veg or berries to keep up the flow. When I am away from home, I will buy some strawberries or such, maybe some cheese, and often a Twix or Kit-kat to use as the fast with the berries - keeps me in the glow, so to speak. Metabolism can be 'checked' with a thermometer - if it is working well, you will be over 98.5, if not, you will be lower. Don't panic or fret, just up the fast carbs and balance them with slows and protein later.. I use cheese when I am out, and keep about 99˚ most of the day. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Mon, 02 Jun 2014 22:36:19 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247255,from=rss#post247255https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247255,from=rss#post247255YEAH.... and I did... We need food, that is obvious, but how much? Sufficient to power the metabolism. That is the relevant truth, to power the metabolism - this is not something that we can top off in the morning, then go all day without doing anything. That will not work... Eat smaller meals, and smaller still snacks, all day long, to keep the metabolism in the fat burning zone... nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Thu, 29 May 2014 21:46:00 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247228,from=rss#post247228https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247228,from=rss#post247228So,,, to explain metabolism slightly differently: Firstly, Metabolism is the engine of the soul - without it, the soul leaves, the body dies. Two things are needed by the metabolism, in large amounts... The first, Salt, should be replenished by the foods we eat, failing that, use sparingly on foods. The second is sugar, in very large amounts - everything that we eat supports the metabolism in different ways, but the most important things are carbohydrates because they turn, either immediately or eventually, into the glucose sugar we need to fuel the metabolism. Salt levels are effected by water intake, be it in drinks, or as water - too much and we dilute the salt, that can cause coma and death. Too much water will indeed kill. We store our salt within the cells of the body, and the metabolism regulates the amounts of salt sent to the cells, and sent to the bladder. Too much liquid will mess with the salt side of the metabolism, and needs reducing - this should be eventual, as the brain interferes with the liquid needs by becoming addicted to things like coffee - something that actually should never be drunk. The nutrients in coffee could have a book written to warn about them. Two cups is too much in two hours, let alone at breakfast. Medical science, being mainly wrong at most times, believes that we need to consume the best part of a gallon of liquid a day - this is not correct at all - if you do that, you will water down the cellular saline liquids, and do damage - as displayed by clear urine - urine is not supposed to clear, however many times doctors say it should be - look at every other mammal on earth (remember, we are not special, we are mammals) and notice that the urine is yellow - that is pee colour. If it is clear, this signifies too much liquid has diluted the cellular saline liquids and the kidneys obeyed the metabolic order to remove minerals from the urine, and bung it into the cells. If urine is clear all the time, there are no minerals the body can morph into usable salt, and the body becomes ill.. It may function ill, but ill it most certainly is. That is salt - too much liquid dilutes it.. NOT GOOD. Now on to sugar... Sugar, as glucose, is the most important thing in the world. EVERYTHING within the body is influenced by it. Not just some things, EVERYTHING. For this reason, we need to regulate the amount, and levels of carbohydrates we present to the metabolism to convert to glucose. On rising, a fast carb meal should be eaten within 45 minutes, to restart the metabolism after sleeping. Waiting too long puts it into starvation mode, and everything you eat is converted not to glucose, but to fat. This puts you into the phase of hypoglycaemia where chaos reigns.. Eating the fast carb meal gets glucose to the metabolism immediately, literally within seconds.. This boosts the fuel levels to good, and it will last about 40 minutes, then decline. If you consumed some slow carbs as well, they will start converting at about this time, to top up the fuel again. This leaves you good to go on for a total of about two and a half hours. Eating more to start off with does not help as the hyperglycaemic level of too much glucose is nearly as bad as the hypo level. Eating fast carbs, with slow carbs, along with proteins and fats throughout the day, in small amounts, keeps your fuel gauge level. Hypoglycaemia: Big word; meaning low sugar in the blood. really meaning very low fuel, causing the metabolism to weaken. Side effects of hypoglycaemia - A myriad of problems can be directly linked to low blood sugar; diabetes, depression, despair, anaemia, urinary problems, heart problems, stubborn weight gain, or inability to gain weight, sickly body, low oestrogen levels, or inappropriate oestrogen levels, headaches, lethargy, then eventually coma, and death. This is only a listing of the more common problems. There are many more... Hyperglycaemia: Big word meaning too high blood sugar. Also causes the metabolism to weaken, but in a different way. Side effects of hyperglycaemia: - Anger, frustration, violent tempers, screaming fits, inability to sleep or rest, or keep still, annoyed with everything, headaches, damaging blood pressure, heart failure, stroke, coma and death. Again only a few of them - you get the picture, either are really bad. Many people think that type two diabetes is caused by too high a level of blood sugar - but it actually is caused by the crash into hypoglycaemia, after the sugar high..The physiology of that action is complicated - I can explain it fully, but it takes a while, and probably will fly over the heads of most people. Depression from low blood sugar is the most dangerous aspect of the bouncing levels - often a depressed person things that drugs are a good way of dealing with it, when a bottle of coca-cola is all they need. Not the crappy American sort, the good sugary Mexican sort. When depressed next, drink a very sugary drink, and you will become level within minutes. I have successfully stopped suicides by offering high glucose candy to the intended suicide - they are often touched by the kind effort, and will take it.. They eat it, and don't want to kill themselves any more. Most suicides are depressed, mainly by low blood sugar, and could be saved by a bottle of Mexican pop. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Thu, 29 May 2014 21:42:22 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247221,from=rss#post247221https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247221,from=rss#post247221Thank you Muldazh, for everything you do to help keep us safe, and healthy. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Wed, 28 May 2014 15:19:00 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247218,from=rss#post247218https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247218,from=rss#post247218in a nutshell, so to speak.... The body is an organism that functions through heat - all of the chemical reactions that make life happen need heat in our bodies - if we were reptiles or fish, we could live with external heat, but we can't. The heat system within us is called the Metabolism, and can be likened to the motive power of a steam engine. To function correctly it needs to boil, at a measurable temperature of over 98˚F or 36.7˚C. This being measurable is the temperature in the rectum, armpit, or mouth - the core temperature is three or four degrees hotter... When we try to diet in any way at all, by restricting or minimising food, we damage that metabolic rate, making the body work somewhat wrongly, and minimal eating puts us in to famine mode - when everything we eat is stored as fat. This is caused by a low blood sugar level, that goes immediately to high sugar level when we eat something, which puts us back in famine mode.. To break this cycle, we need to feed the metabolism almost constantly, for the first few weeks, to program it to work properly. To do this, we have to take food in a particular combination - it does not matter what it is, just that it is the right ratio of fast carbs - breads, sweet fruits, sugar, etc, to slow carbs - berries, some fruits, green vegetables, green peas and beans, tomato and peppers, to protein - meats, fish legumme proteins, etc, and fats - limited to saturated. The fast carbs work immediately to ramp up the metabolism to the right temps, and gets us into fat burning mode - then, as that fuel peaks, and fades, the slow carbs are up to speed, fuelling us for the next couple of hours.. The trick is to eat EVERY Couple of hours, or so, just a small fast/slow snack, that will keep the boiler stoked. This only needs to be this specific for about three or four weeks, after that time our metabolism should have recovered enough to allow for three hour intervals twixt foods. Don't eat massive amounts of foods, keep the portions smaller, eat something every two hours or so, until one hour before bedtime, and you will boost up the metabolism, and start to burn fat. If the couple of hour intervals mean you have to eat four or five snacks, over the day, and three meals, so be it. Keep the boiler stoked, and metabolic health will be the result - it will work, can't not do. Keep the portions small - you are eating more meals, and know what a slow carb is, and a fast carb, and eat more slow than fast.. That is it, in a nutshell. It will work, I wish I had figured out some of this before now - I ain't as clever as I should be. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Tue, 27 May 2014 19:50:14 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247215,from=rss#post247215https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247215,from=rss#post247215All very interesting information...and as I've tried all the "mainstream" diet, metabolism info out there with no results....it's nice to know they are not the know all...and I was not wrong in thinking it must be me... nondisclosed_email@example.com (Queenyforever)Tue, 27 May 2014 17:17:48 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247208,from=rss#post247208https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247208,from=rss#post247208This research is amazing - we are eating well, smaller portions than we used to, snacking between meals, and making sure that we have fruit and vegs to slow down the sugar rush bread and cookies give - It would seem that it could take a month to see results, so are not weighing ourselves daily, or even weekly - I will wait the month out. nondisclosed_email@example.com (muladzh)Tue, 27 May 2014 12:09:55 +0000 Re: The importance of metabolism in health.https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247207,from=rss#post247207https://bthepaganporch.runboard.com/p247207,from=rss#post247207Wow, that's stunning. It is imperative to completely remove the poly unsaturated seed oils from the diet - that type of oil is alien to the body of a mammal and will distress the metabolism immediately. If you consume any of it, you will compromise you efforts to boost the metabolism. We have learned that even ten ml of the oil will impact the metabolism. That means checking the ingredients of everything and avoiding anything made with seed oils. Bread, for the most part, has seed oil in it for some reason - I have baked bread all my life and have never used oil in it. Saturated fats are: Mammal Fat - Lard, Tallow, Suet from animals, etc; Palm oil, palm kernel oil, Coconut oil, and some of the more obscure tree oils - check carefully. Starchy vegetables are good - potato, turnips, swedes, carrots, beets.. Sugar is best as the better quality evaporated cane juice or similar - but any is better than none - that literally is 180˚ from all the other diets ideas - sugar to them is bad, but to boost the metabolism, it is essential. Froggy endorses this way of eating wholeheartedly - and has warm hands and feet to prove it. Another seemingly crazy aspect of metabolic health is the reduction of water consumption We don't need the amount recommended by the health community - quite the reverse - water in too great a quantity, distresses the metabolism - true drink cold water and it will raise the temps of the inner oven, but then it will fall lower than it was without adequate fuel to keep it going. Only drink when thirsty, and don't chug down a glass - take a sip, swill it round your mouth and take another if you need it. I have reduced my liquid input to a third the amount I have drunk for years, with absolutely no ill effect. The expected result of reducing water input is constipation - the doctors tell us this. The actual result of boosting the metabolism is multiple evacuations daily. No constipation, no loose stools, just healthy poo three or four times a day. A friend who had suffered terrible constipation all her life is now experiencing two or three evacuations daily, no constipation, and much better health. All from boosting the metabolism. It is hard to get your head around the truth of it - especially if you, like me, have spent ten years or more trying to find the perfect health diet, that believe me, does not exist. This is not a diet, it is the lack of a diet, it is eating what your body tells you to eat, when it tells you to eat it, because it is the best judge. Instead of walking round the stores seeing sugary things you mustn't eat, just eat some. Get a sugar sweetened soda, and drink it slowly. Have a doughnut, or a tart, try to have good ingredients but initially, just try anything - the effect is nearly immediate, and you will feel amazing - the sugar rush you have been warned against is actually the metabolism ramping up. Get past it, without guilt, and the feelings are amazing. Be warned though, until you can get the engine started, you may increase your weight - give it time, easily as long as the failed diets, and it will start up, and then you will burn fat like a teenager. Metabolic boosted people are reporting weight-loss whilst eating over five hundred carbohydrates a day... Over four thousand calories a day... I have not got there yet, but am feeling much better, having less bodily problems than before, and have zero stress - that is the other advantage of a boosted metabolism - nothing is stressful any more. Mind blowing but true - last month a delay in getting the windows would have me annoyed and growling. This month with a boosted metabolism, I don't care. They will arrive eventually, or we will deal with their absence - it is fine. I do not get as uncomfortable in the heat as I did last month - that is nice to experience, I can tell you. A typical carb boost for me is to eat safe cookies - Carrs makes them with palm oil, as do a lot of makers like McVitties and Crawfords - just look at the ingredients and go for the lard or palm oil kind. A couple of cookies with créme between two equals twenty carbs, and will raise the metabolism for half an hour, or fuel the already boosted metabolism for the morning. Having two such cookies will raise Frog's metabolism sufficiently to make hands and feet warm, from being cold. Instant effects from eating something. - that is amazing. The hardest thing for many folk to get round, is the dangers of seed oils - google Matt Stone, a researcher, and read his arguments - they make a lot of sense. He recommends other sources to research - go for it. When you are comfortable with ridding the seed oils the difference will spring out at you. Things you related to age, go away, things you thought were normal, go away, things you thought only children experienced, happen for you again. I'm excited about this. For most of my life, I had cold feet and hands. (Feet more than hands.) I would love to find ways to feel warm, especially in winter. On the other hand, I do eat a lot of carbohydrates, mostly bread. (Dark bread or gray bread, as we call it, a mix of wheat and rye.) Which carbohydrates would you suggest?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Fri, 23 May 2014 07:33:55 +0000
